The children have explored how to use the basic features of a computer e.g. switching it on and off, logging in and mouse control. During their first visit to the ICT Suite the children worked with a partner to practise typing their name.
In Art the children have been studying the work of Picasso. During this week's Computing lesson the children had the opportunity to create their very own Picasso Head! Take a look below to see some of their creations.
As part of their Computing lessons this half term the children are going to develop their word processing skills. We will be using Purple Mash to create images and word process short texts. We will be linking our work to our current Topic units including animals and food.
The children learned how to use technology safely and developed an understanding of who to ask for help. We read and listened to a story about 'Smartie the Penguin' about keeping safe online. The children enjoyed learning a song to help remind them to ask an adult for help when they are unsure of something.
The children thought carefully about what they do online and how they stay safe. Some of the children draw a portrait of an adult who can help them stay safe when using the Internet. Others wrote speech bubbles and used Purple Mash to write about how Smartie the Penguin taught them to be safe online.
In the afternoon the children enjoyed making emojis to show how we can make the Internet a better place - stop, think and be happy.
This half term our Computing topic is 'Data' so we are linking it to our work in Maths. The children have used Purple Mash to create pictograms based on data that they collected in Maths to show the favourite ice cream flavours, toys and farm animals in Year 1.
