The Lost Sheep
Graham brought in a team of puppeteers from St Saviour's Church to tell us the parable 'The Lost Sheep'. The team have spent this summer working with children and families from Bamber Bridge, using their puppets to get their messages across.
Year 1 loved the puppet show and thought carefully about how God loves everybody.
In RE the children have been learning about and discussing Creation. They have listened carefully both in class and KS1 worships and shared their ideas well. They know the things that God created and used playdough to show some of His creations.
On Friday 7th October, we held our Harvest Service in the Methodist Church. Our theme was hope. The children in Year 1 had to talk about their hopes for the future.
Operation Christmas Child
For part of our RE 'Christmas Gifts' unit we have studied the charity Operation Christmas Child. The charity asks for shoeboxes full of small gifts to send to children all across the world as a way of sharing God's love at Christmas.
After watching some videos on the Operation Christmas Child website we decided to fill two shoeboxes - one for a girl and one for a boy. We collected a variety of gifts to put in the boxes. The children feel very proud that they have been able to make other children happy and share God's love with them.
Retelling of the Nativity Story
Today we read a beautiful story about the Nativity in preparation for our own production in a few weeks time. We discussed how Christians believe that Jesus is God's gift to the world.
The children participated in a carousel of activities including retelling the Nativity story using finger puppets, retelling the Nativity story using playdough and writing about their favourite part of the story.
As our RE topic is 'Gifts' we have decided to have our very own 'Secret Santa'. Today the children all picked a name out of a hat and made a beautiful salt dough Christmas tree decoration for that person.
Over the next few weeks we will be painting and decorating our creations before wrapping them in lovely Christmas paper and giving them out. We are very excited to give our gifts and share some of God's love at Christmas.

Our RE topic this half term is 'Jesus was Special'. Throughout the half term the children will be reading different Bible stories and linking them to their own experiences. The children shared their thoughts about why Jesus is so special. Their ideas were recorded on post-it notes for our RE scrapbook.
We started the topic by discussing friendship. The children talked about their friends and why they are so special.
"My friend plays with me." - Jack
"My friend is special because they are always kind to me." - Passion
"My friend makes me laugh." - Saffie
The children helped act out a story from the Bible today about Jesus' Special Friends. They thought carefully about why Jesus chose the men in the story to be his friends. Some of the children created a beautiful fish for our Prayer Board whilst others acted in role as a fisherman to write a postcard.
This half term the children will be 'Celebrating new life' in RE. The children will be reading and retelling the Easter story and learning about how Christians believe that Jesus was raised to new life.
The children have thought carefully about new life and have sorted different objects into living and non-living. To link to our visit to Blackpool Zoo the children have learnt about the life cycle of a caterpillar.
As part of their homework this half term the children made some fantastic Easter gardens!
This half term we are thinking about 'What is a Saint?'. The children will be discussing who their leaders are and what it means to be a follower. They will be reading and recalling stories about the disciples. During our class worship we will be talking about St Francis.
Prayers for Manchester
Today each class participated in the minutes silence and went onto the field to tie special ribbons to a tree on the field whilst thinking about those people who sadly died in Manchester earlier this week.
This half term the children will be learning all about 'Baptism'. They will look at this special occasion and discuss why children are baptised, the special people who are involved and the gifts that the children receive at their baptism. We will also look at Jatakarma which is the Hinduism baptism of welcoming a baby.
