This week in English the children have been learning about suffixes. They have learnt how to add -ed and -ing onto the end of words.
We have read the story 'Jasper's Beanstalk' to learn about the days of the week and worked hard to spot the suffixes in the book. The children have made a storyboard of the story and have changed the ending to say what Jasper found at the top of the beanstalk.
For their Big Write this week the children wrote their new Jasper's Beanstalk story and included the days of the week and suffixes in their writing. They did a fantastic job!
Rumble in the Jungle
For World Book Day we are looking at the poetry book 'Rumble in the Jungle'. We started the week off by learning all about rhyme. The children participated in lots of fun activities including spotting the odd word out and matching different rhyming words together.
Mad about Minibeasts
Ready for our trip to Blackpool Zoo next week the children have been learning all about minibeast riddles. They have read the book 'Mad about Minibeasts' and learnt the features of riddles. They have planned and written their own fantastic riddles about a chosen minibeast. Take a look at their wonderful writing:
After our trip to Blackpool Zoo the children have been busy writing a recount of our day.
We had a fantastic time exploring and visiting the different animal enclosures. Check our page at the end of the week to see their writing.
Special Interest Week
For Special Interest Week Year 1 have been looking at the musical 'The Lion King'. They have learnt all about the different characters but have focused on Timon and Pumba. They have acted in role as chefs and designed a menu for a 'Minibeast Cafe'. They chose one item of food or drink from their menu and have written a recipe on how to make it.
This week we are learning all about poems to perform. The children have read different animal poems and had to put their own actions to them and perform them for the rest of the class.
