To link to our current Computing topic of 'Data' the children have been sorting this week in Maths. We started the week by revisiting the 5 times tables so that we could look at how to count tally marks in a chart.
The children have read tally charts and pictograms and answered questions about them. They have also collected their own data on the favourite farm animals, toys and ice cream flavours in Year 1. They then put this information into a pictogram on Purple Mash.
Addition and Subtraction
This week the children have been learning how to add and take away 10. They have practised using a 100 square to find numbers.
We have been looking at money in Maths. We have been learning how to recognise British coins and have discussed the new £1 coin and £5 note. Mrs Houlding brought in a £5 note to show us the difference between the old note and the new one. We have learnt about the value of coins and have added up small amounts of money in our new roleplay area.
The children have been busy working in our Ice Cream Van role play area. They have been acting in role as shopkeepers and customers using money to buy ice cream and lollies. It has been lots of fun!
