The children had a shock on Tuesday when they came into the classroom to find a basket of fruit and a letter from a girl named Handa. They had to help her solve a problem. She had walked to her friend Akeyo's village carrying a lovely basket of fruit on her head but when she got there all of the fruit had disappeared and been replaced with some tangerines!
Throughout the week the children have been learning the order of the story through retelling, sequencing and reading.
At the beginning of this week the children had the opportunity to taste the delicious tropical fruits from the story. The pineapple and passion fruits were very popular but the avocado wasn't!
This week the children have used our T4W story map to change the main parts of Handa's Surprise.
The Hedgehog group went on a hunt around the school to find pictures of farm animals and picnic food. They wrote a list of everything they found and put their ideas onto the story map.
The children have changed the animals and the food that is in the basket. They wrote their new stories for Big Write this week.
This week the children will be looking at letters. They will act in role as Akeyo to write a thank you letter to Handa for the delicious basket of tangerines.
This week we completed our next Big Write Mission. We received video messages from Max and Ant who were visiting the beach. They had a special watch that shrunk them to micro-size when they pressed a special button.
The children have sent postcards by writing in the past tense, designed a sandcastle and written a detailed description about it, researched animals found in rockpools, made a rockpool sea creature out of salt dough and created an information leaflet.
