Year 2 will begin a swashbuckling new topic about pirates called ‘Ahoy Me Hearties’. The classroom will be transformed in to a pirate island complete with a pirate clipper role play area and a pirate island hideout for our reading area. As part of our topic, we will be finding out about famous pirates from the past, creating treasure maps using co-ordinates and positional language, writing adventure stories and using pirate loot as a basis for problem solving in maths. In Computing, we will be programming Bee Bots to discover treasure around the school and also using Purple Mash for programming. In history, we will be finding out about life on board a pirate ship this term and next term will look at seaside history. Music will be inspired by sea shanties and we’ll be creating our own pirate themed music to accompany some drama work. Science this term is linked to health and lifecycles. We will be developing textile skills in DT and art, creating seaside collages and pirate flags using sewing, joining and dyeing. As part of our Geography topic, we will be looking at seasons and climates/weather around the world. In RE, we will be learning about ascension and Pentecost this half term before moving on to special buildings including the church and the mosque.
