This half term the children have looked at 'Drawing'. They have learnt a variety of skills including drawing lines of different shapes and thickness.
To link to our body topic in Science the children have used mirrors to look at themselves so that they could draw self-portraits.
Methodist Art Exhibition
For this year's exhibition Year One have chosen to make a woven basket made out of newspaper. Inside the basket will be different food parcels to represent different Bible
stories such as The Feeding of the 5000 or The Last Supper.
When learning about the Stick Man some children chose to make Autumn pictures out of natural materials in continuous provision. They did a super job!
Teddy Bear's Picnic
In Design & Technology we have been looking at different types of picnic food. The children received a very special letter off 'Mr Bear' asking for their help to design and make a biscuit for a picnic.
The children each designed a biscuit and Mr Bear then invited them to a Teddy Bear's Picnic. The children were asked to bake and decorate the biscuits and bring their own teddy bear along to the picnic.
We have been looking at collages and other African art. The children have explored colour, shapes and patterns to make African dolls, masks and jewellery. They have also used different materials to make a collage of an African sunset.
The children have been making and sewing an animal puppet. We started the topic by practising our sewing skills and learning basic stitches. The children then designed their puppet by choosing which animal they would like to make and the materials they would need to make it. They then sewed together two pieces of felt and used special fabric glue to add any extra details for their animal. The children have really persevered with their sewing and their puppets look brilliant!
This half term we are learning all about 3D art with a focus on natural sculptures. The children will be using clay and various natural materials to make sculptures of animals and other living things. In their first lesson they learnt the difference between nature and man-made before looking at some of the tools and techniques needed for using clay.
