On a journey with Jesus;

growing, learning and loving God together

Autumn 1

This half term the children will be learning about number and place value. They will start by counting, recognising and ordering numbers to 20 before moving onto numbers up to 100. We will count forwards and backwards and from any given number.

Some children have been learning their teen numbers this week and others have been ordering numbers to 100.
Over the past few weeks the children have been learning about addition and subtraction. They have been writing number sentences and using number lines and bead strings to work out the answers.

You can see more of the children's learning about number on Tapestry.

Autumn 2

Number bonds

We started the new half term by looking at number bonds. The children are learning about pairs of numbers that add together for example 6 + 4 = 10. They will be using lots of different equipment to help them remember these number facts.

This week in Maths we have been learning all about telling the time. The children have made their own clocks and have started reading o'clock times and half past times. They have also been drawing hands on clocks to show different times.

The children have been learning the days of the week and the months of the year this week in Maths. We have been learning songs to help us remember the order of them.

The children have been learning all about 2D shapes and their properties in Maths recently. They have worked together in small groups to explore the shapes and sort them into different groups depending on how many sides and corners they have.

Some groups went on shape hunts around the school and some children were given challenges to make Christmas pictures using shapes.

In Year 1 we have been exploring measurement. The children have learnt the vocabulary used to describe capacity such as full, half full, nearly empty. We have also practised reading the scales on the sides of containers to learn all about millilitres and litres.

We have also explored measuring objects by length. The children started by investigating objects that are longer or shorter before using a metre stick to measure different items in the classroom. They had lots of fun doing this activity! We also explored measuring the length of different objects using non-standard units.
