Share a Story Day
We have focussed on the story 'Oliver's Fruit Salad'. We listened to the story without looking at any pictures and created a painting of what the children thought Oliver looked like.
The children wrote their own sentences and stories about the story. The children made fruit wands. They chopped up and discussed about the different fruits, exploring the different textures and smells. They most enjoyed eating them!
We had a fabulous week outdoors with lots of fantastic planned activities. We built our own Assault Courses as well as a giant inflatable Assault Course that visited school.
We enjoyed experimenting with bubble mixture and trying to make the biggest bubbles.
We had an amazing trip to Haigh Hall where we made fires, built dens, practised our archery skills and hunted for bugs. The children really enjoyed spending even more time outdoors than normal and enjoyed learning lots of new skills and making fabulous memories.
What a fun filled, action packed, half term!
The children have had lots of fun, learning about mini beasts and insects. We have collected and observed worms and even made a wormery for them to live in. Then we made our own worm information books. We found out lots of fascinating facts about worms and snails.
We celebrated The Royal Wedding with a special lunch. The whole school ate together outside, wearing crowns, listening to music and celebrating.
Sports Day was a great success! Well done to all the children who took part and had lots of fun!
Reception Class worked really hard with the children in Year Four to present a fantastic friendship assembly. We hope you enjoyed it too!
Have a well deserved rest, ready for a well planned and busy Outdoor Adventure Week as we return.
Our Topic is; Down on the Farm.
We have opened a Farm Shop in our role play area where the children have been learning about money and using these skills to buy fruit and vegetables. They have been counting the items and paying for their shopping using language related to money.
We have also created a lovely reading barn where the children are enjoying using animal puppets to tell stories and are reading words off fruit and vegetables. We have also been looking at different animals and their young. The children enjoyed following instructions to make a milkshake. We are trying hard to write captions and recognise our numbers to 20.
The children have been spending lots of time in the outdoor areas and developing our sorting skills by sorting items by length and height. We are also looking at 2D shapes. . Take a look at some of the fabulous photos...
We have been learning about reindeer in Reception class this week. We have made Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer using the playdough and different materials, we have been practising writing his name. We have decorated reindeer biscuits and made reindeer hats ready for our Christmas party.
Here is a preview of the children all dressed up in their costumes, ready for the nativity.
They have been working very hard and they look and sound amazing.

This week Reception have been learning about how to be a reporter. We have had lots of fun dressing up as reporters, taking pictures and thinking of questions to ask the teachers during their interviews. We all took it in turns to interview the teachers and find out interesting facts. At the end of the week we wrote up a report all about the teachers of Cuerden Church School.
We have been busy making new friends and exploring the school.
