This half term children in Year 5 and 6 have been enjoying football club after school with Matt from South Ribble Sports Development. This after school club has introduced a range of essential techniques including dribbling, passing and receiving and running with the ball. The children have also been provided with the rules that are needed to play football.
Playtime Leaders who run the Change for Life Lunchtime Club
At the end of September our new Playtime Leaders were appointed. A big well done to Amy, Tegan, Alannah and Bartek from Year 5! On Tuesday 8th October these children visited Wellfield High School to participate in a training event. They worked well alongside children from other local schools to learn a variety of games. The children will then work with the welfare staff to organise activities at lunchtimes to encourage other children to be active.
Children in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 have had an absolutely fabulous time over the last 5 weeks working with Danielle from South Ribble Sports Development to put together a cheerleading routine.
In the last week of the club several members of staff watched their final performance and couldn't believe all of the stunts and dance moves that the children had learnt. Super work everybody!
Children in Reception and Year 1 have enjoyed participating in Fun Fitness this half term which has been taught by Andy from the South Ribble Sports Development Team.
At the beginning of February the school football team began training in preparation for our upcoming tournament. Despite the wind the children played various games and showed good teamwork skills. KS1 fitness event
On Tuesday 4th February children from Years 1 and 2 attended a sport event at Leyland St Mary's High School. They participated in a variety of fitness activities including balancing, skipping, hopping, relay races and throwing. Everybody had a fantastic time and showed excellent behaviour! The children enjoyed developing their teamwork skills and listened well to the instructions they were given. Each child will be presented with a certificate in our achievement assembly on Friday for their participation. A big well done to Faye, Joshua, Grace, Oliver, Ava, Dylan, Theo, Lacie, Lilly, Chloe and Max!
Children in Years 2 and 3 have enjoyed working with Danielle from South Ribble Sports Development at Gymnastics after school club. The children have learnt a variety of balances, rolls and travels and have put them together to create a sequence. They have also used different pieces of equipment in their sequences.
Children in Years 3 and 4 have had a fantastic time this half term learning all about boxing with Andy from the South Ribble Sports Development Team. The children have learnt basic movements, worked with partners and have participated in some challenging circuits that have included ladder races, skipping and sit ups!
Children in Year 5 and 6 have participated in a fencing after school club this half term. This club introduced the children to basic stances, rules and blade work. The children then progressed onto duelling.
Children in Year 3 and 4 have participated in a tag rugby after school this half term ran by Jake from South Ribble. The children played a variety of short-sided games and invasion games before progressing onto playing matches against each other.

In September our new Playtime Leaders were appointed. A big well done to Logan, Daniel, Beth, Libby and Chad who are this year's leaders!
This week ten pupils from Years 1 and 2 attended a KS1 event at Worden Academy in Leyland. The children participated in a carousel of six different activities designed to get them physically active. Every child received a certificate for their participation. The children showed great listening skills, tried their best at each activity station and showed great teamwork skills. They are now very excited to continue playing games and being active back at school.
Children in Reception, Year 1 and 2 have participated in this fun after school club this half term. The children have mastered basic movements including running, jumping, throwing and catching as well as developing their balance, agility and co-ordination skills.
Children in Years 1 and 2 have participated in a variety of fun cardio fitness sessions involving aerobic activities, skipping and circuits at this after school club. They have also had the opportunity to use the bigger pieces of PE equipment.
Children in Year 5 and 6 are receiving football coaching from the South Ribble Sports Developement team this half term. The children will learn techniques including dribbling, passing and receiving and running with the ball.
KS1 Dance and Gymnastics event
On Tuesday 29th January ten children from Years 1 and 2 attended an event at Brownedge St Mary's High School. The children participated in several activities linked to dance and gymnastics, including:
Children in Year 3 and 4 have participated in a Netball after school club with Anthony from South Ribble Sports Development this half term. The children have been introduced to basic ball skills, coordination, team work, movement spacing and high five netball rules.
In the Spring Term children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 have participated in a cheerleading after school club alongside staff and Sharn from South Ribble Sports Development Team. The children have been given an introduction to cheerleading and have worked on a routine that they performed to their family in the final session!
Football team - tournament news!
Our school football team has recently participated in a weekly tournament alongside other schools at Lostock Hall Academy.
Prior to the tournament the team worked really hard in training sessions ran by Miss Chapman and Mrs McDougall and also worked alongside Matt from South Ribble Sports Development to develop their skills even further by attending an extra-curricular club.
During the tournament the children enjoyed playing in the matches each week and were so enthusiastic despite the rain and freezing weather! Every child was dedicated and played excellently by showing perseverance, sportsmanship and teamwork. The children represented our school amazingly and everybody is so proud that they achieved third place in the league this year!
A big well done to all of the team and also a special thank you to the families who came to support us each week as well as helping to dismantle the goalposts at the end of every match!
Children in Key Stage 2 are participating in a Kwik Cricket after school club with Jake from South Ribble Sports Development Team. They are learning skills such as fielding, batting, bowling and catching.
Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are enjoying Archery after school club this half term. Anthony from South Ribble Sports Development has given the children in an introduction to this sport in a fun and exciting way.

In the Autumn Term children in Year 6 enjoyed 'Bikeability'. The children now have the skills to be safe and confident on the road!
High 5 Netball coaching
On Monday 6th November, nine children from Year 6 participated in a High 5 Netball coaching session at Lostock Hall Academy. They learnt the rules of the game and lots of skills including different passes and footwork. We are hoping to make up a team ready for a tournament in the Spring Term.
Over the last several weeks 10 children from Years 1 and 2 have worked with Sharn from South Ribble at Cheerleading Club. They have learnt lots of different moves to put together a routine. During the last session of the club the children invited along their parents to watch their show. They did a super job and we are now looking forward to incorporating it into our Infant Nativity production! Thank you to everyone who came along to watch.
