Welcome back! Hope you all had a lovely Christmas holiday. This term we will be learning all about World War II. Our class novel is Friend or Foe by Michael Morpurgo. English lessons will be based around this novel and it will provide many different writing opportunities, writing in role, recounts, discussion, newspaper article and an evacuee story. In maths, we will be consolidating our arithmetic skills, while learning about area and perimeter of shapes, volume, percentages linked with fractions and decimals and measures.
In R.E we will learn about who Jesus is and was. In Science we will be investigating electricity. The focus for PE this half term is dance. In art and dt, we will be making gas masks, making war time food from rationed recipes and making Blitz paintings.
We have had a busy first half term in Year 6. We have shown prospective parents around and have taken part in bikeability as well as learning about our topic on South America. Here is an outline of what we will be learning about :
In English: we will be continuing to read our class novel 'The Explorer' and using this to base our survival stories upon. The story will be set in the Amazon Rainforest and we will be learning to create atmosphere, use dialogue to convey characters and to move a story forward; and combine description with action. We will be using a wide range of punctuation and using different conjunctions and openers to make our writing interesting.
In maths: we will start with recapping division and using different methods to solve calculations, then we will focus on properties of numbers e.g prime, squared, common factors and multiples and after that we will be focusing on fractions.
In science: we will start by finding out about adaptation and evolution.
Topic work: will move from the geography focus to history focusing on the Mayans.
