Our Computing curriculum is carefully sequenced and coherently planned, building progressively on pupils’ prior knowledge and enabling them to develop a secure understanding of Computing. 

Equity, Diversity and Justice

Our Computing curriculum prepares pupils to participate confidently and responsibly in an increasingly digital world. Pupils learn how technology is used in different contexts and explore the opportunities and challenges it presents. They develop an understanding of digital safety, privacy, security, online behaviour and the responsible use of information and technology. Pupils are encouraged to consider issues of fairness, equality and respect, helping them to understand their responsibilities as digital citizens and the ways technology can be used to communicate, create, solve problems and support others.

SEND, Inclusion and Adaptive Teaching

We are committed to ensuring that all pupils can access the full Computing curriculum and achieve well. Our teachers use adaptive teaching to identify and respond to pupils’ individual needs and barriers to learning. Teaching, resources, tasks and levels of support are adapted where appropriate, including through explicit modelling, scaffolding, accessible resources and additional opportunities to practise and consolidate learning. These adaptations enable pupils with SEND and other additional needs to access the same curriculum, while developing increasing independence and making progress from their individual starting points.

Knowledge and Skills

The curriculum is structured so that pupils know more, remember more and can apply what they have learned. Key knowledge and concepts are revisited and deliberately sequenced, allowing pupils to consolidate prior learning before moving on to more complex content. Pupils develop knowledge across computer science, information technology and digital literacy, including algorithms, computational thinking, programming, problem-solving and the effective and responsible use of digital technology.
