At Cuerden Church School, our music curriculum aims to provide all pupils with an enjoyable, high quality music education, which engages and inspires children to develop a love of music. It is our intention that children gain a firm understanding of what music is through listening, singing, playing, analysing, and composing across a variety of historical periods, styles, cultures and musical genres. We encourage children to participate in a variety of musical experiences through which we aim to build up the confidence of all children. We believe it is important that children develop descriptive language skills in music lessons when learning about how music can represent different feelings, emotions and narratives. We also teach technical vocabulary such as volume, pitch, beat and rhythm and encourage children to discuss music using these correct terms. 

At Cuerden Church School, we intend our curriculum to increase self-confidence, curiosity, creativity and imagination and provide opportunities for self-expression and a sense of personal achievement. We want music to be embedded into school life through worship, productions, assemblies and other performance opportunities.
