Homework
Homework
The main homework for the children is daily reading, as well as spelling and maths skills practice. The children will also be given half-termly projects so that they can make choices about how to complete their home learning. This supports the development of key skills and thinking skills.
Reading
Children should read aloud to an adult for 10 minutes at least three times per week. The adult needs to sign the reading diary. If children read three times within the week, they will be rewarded with a playtime on Friday afternoon.
Spelling
Spellings are sent home every Monday and tested on a Friday. Spelling are sent home in a spelling book which will be marked following the test on Friday so that you know how your child is doing. The children are taught lots a ways to practise their spellings. These can be done in homework books. A Look Cover Write Check sheet is also sent home every week. It is recommended that the children do a little bit each night to become fluent.
Maths
Practising times tables will be the main maths homework in Year 4. Using Times Tables Rock Stars will support children in completing the Department for Education Multiplication Check at the end of the year, but there are lots of other ways to learn too.
Other Homework
There will be topic challenges so that the children can choose some of their own learning. These will be put into homework books each half term.
See the Weblinks section of the Year 4 page for access to other learning suggestions.
