Welcome to Year 2!

My name is Mrs McKenna and I am the teacher in Year 2. Mrs Turner and Mrs Lakey are also a members of the class teaching team.

I have been working at Cuerden Church School for quite a long time now and have been mainly in KS2. I lead science in the school and love spending time exploring new ideas with the children. I also have responsibility for safeguarding within the school. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, gardening and arts and crafts, as well as  anything science-related, of course! I also enjoy football and support Preston North End.

We are very much looking forward to September and everyone being back in school. In the meantime, please take a look around the Year 2 pages to see the kinds of things we have been learning this year and to find out a little more about what to expect the new school year.

This term, our first priority will be to settle the children back into school with new routines and a focus on wellbeing and behaviour for learning. We will review basic skills from the core subjects. In science, we will be beginning to find out about local habitats, as well as learning about how humans and other animals keep healthy and grow and we will also begin exploring the properties of everyday materials. Computing will focus on basic computer skills and creating artwork in Paint. Our geography will cover our local area and in history we will be finding out who our historical heroes are. In RE, we will be learning about the Bible and why holy books are important, before exploring the Christmas story later in the term.
