Sports Premium Funding 2021-2022

How are we planning to spend our PE and sport grant this year?

At Cuerden Church School we believe in providing our children with a broad and balanced PE curriculum which will motivate them to lead healthy and active lifestyles. From the government this year, our school has received the allocated sports grant funding of £34,400. The children and staff will benefit from a new PE curriculum which develops knowledge, skills and understanding. Specialist coaches will lead intra-school festivals and inter-school competitions and the impact and progress will be supported by the PE Passport app.

It is expected that schools will see an improvement in the following 5 indicators:

  1. The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity.
  2. The profile of PE and Sport being raised across the school as a tool for whole school improvement.
  3. Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and Sport.
  4. Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils.
  5. Increased participation in competitive sport.

From September 2021 to July 2022 the sports grant has been spent on:

  1. Buying into the South Ribble Sports Development Active School Offer:

We celebrate sporting achievements each Friday in our Achievements assembly along with the children's names appearing on the weekly newsletter.

Swimming

Swimming and water safety remains an important part of the PE curriculum at our school as we believe that it is another way of helping the children to lead healthy and active lifestyles. Schools have the responsibility to publish swimming data and we have used some of the sports grant for this.

This data shows how the children have met the National Curriculum expectations. By the end of Key Stage Two, children should be able to:

  • Swim 25 metres.
  • Use a variety of different strokes (e.g. breast stroke, back stroke, front crawl).
  • Be able to perform a safe self-rescue.

Current swimming provision:

Throughout the academic year, pupils in Year 4 attend weekly swimming lessons at the local leisure centre. During their weekly sessions, the children are grouped according to their ability and are taught to:

  • Swim confidently over a distance of at least 25 metres.
  • Use a range of strokes.
  • Perform a safe, self-rescue in different water situations.

The children will be assessed in the water at different stages throughout the year and data will also be received and reported on our website.

Of the current Year 6 cohort:

  • 43.33% (13 out of 30 children) can swim competently over a distance of at least 25 metres.
  • 70% (21 out of 30 children) can swim 10m front crawl.
  • 53% (16 out of 30 children) can swim 10m backstroke.
  • 46.66% (14 out of 30 children) can swim 25m front crawl & backstroke.
  • Safe self-rescue data has not been recorded due to school closure.

These children last went swimming in Year 4 (academic year 2019-2020) and therefore missed a large part of their swimming sessions due to the Coronavirus Pandemic and school closure.
