Sports Premium Funding 2025-2026
Sports Premium Funding 2025 - 2026
How are we planning to spend our PE and sports grant this year?
At Cuerden Church we believe in providing our children with a broad and balanced PE curriculum which motivates them to lead healthy and active lifestyles. From the government this year, our school has received the allocated sports grant of £17,690. The children and staff will benefit from a PE curriculum which develops knowledge, skills and understanding. Specialist coaches will continue to lead intra-school competitions and the impact of progress will be supported by the Get Set 4 PE online assessment tool.
It is expected that schools will see an improvement in the following 5 indicators:
- Increased confidence, knowledge & skills of all staff in teaching PE & Sport.
- The engagement of all pupils in physical activity.
- The profile of PE & Sport is raised across the school as a tool for whole school improvement.
- Broader experience of a range of sports & activities offered to all pupils.
- Increased participation in competitive sport.
Schools should also see continuing professional development (CPD) for staff as a key priority to ensure that the improvements of PE, sport and physical activity are sustainable.

Swimming
Swimming and water safety remains an important part of the PE curriculum at our school as we believe that it is another way of helping children to lead healthy and active lifestyles. Schools have the responsibility to publish swimming data and we have used some of the sports grant for this.
This data shows how the children have met the National Curriculum expectations. By the end of Key Stage Two, children should be able to:
- Swim 25 metres.
- Use a variety of different strokes (e.g. breast stroke, back stroke, front crawl).
- Be able to perform a safe self-rescue.
Current swimming provision:
Throughout the academic year, pupils in Year 5 (Autumn to Spring) and Year 4 (Spring to Summer) attend weekly swimming lessons at the local leisure centre. During their weekly sessions, the children are grouped according to their ability and are taught to:
- Swim confidently over a distance of at least 25 metres.
- Use a range of strokes.
- Perform a safe, self-rescue in different water situations.
The children will be assessed in the water at different stages throughout the year and data will also be received and reported on our website.
Of the current Year 6 cohort (Year 6 2025 – 2026):
These children have had weekly school swimming lessons in Year 4 & Year 5. They also had top-up swimming sessions provided by Pro Sport in February 2024. Any children who have not achieved 25m will receive further top-up sessions in Autumn Term 2025.
- 82.75% (24 out of 29 children) can swim competently over a distance of at least 25 metres.
- 72.41% (21 out of 29 children) can perform a safe self-rescue.
- 72.41% (21 children) are water confident.
Further improvement and development:
In the Autumn Term, children from Year 6 will attend weekly top-up sessions at the local leisure centre.
