Autumn
Take a look at all of the interesting things we have been learning about so far in Year 3!
English
We have been reading the folk tale 'The Tin Forest' in English. We began by looking at the front cover of the book and shared our thoughts and predictions about what we thought the story was about and what might happen.
The children have enjoyed listening to and reading the story. They have thought carefully about the character of the Old Man and his feelings. They have also learnt about and used prepositions to describe the wild forest that the character dreams of.
The children have planned their own innovations of the story including new characters and animals. They have been worked very hard on their new stories. Well done, Year 3.
We have also found out about Biographies this half term in English. The children have explored the different features of this type of text and have read lots of different biographies. The children then wrote their own biography on a famous children's author.
Maths
We have been busy learning about Place Value this half term in Maths. The children have been representing numbers in different ways and have been using equipment to partition numbers up to 1,000.
We have also used number lines to identify and order numbers and have learnt about increments.
Science
This half term we are learning all about 'Animals Including Humans'. We began our topic by finding about the human skeleton and its functions. We have then looked at different types of skeletons and have compared different animal skeletons.
RE
We have been discussing Harvest. The children have shared thoughtful ideas about how we celebrate Harvest in schools and why Christians celebrate this festival.
Topic
In Geography this half term, we have been learning all about settlements. The children have read maps and looked at map symbols. We have also found out about grid references. The children then worked with a partner and planned and created a new settlement.
