On a journey with Jesus;

growing, learning and loving God together

Autumn

Take a look at all of the interesting things that we have been learning about so far in Year 3!

During our first week in Year 3, we read the book 'The Dot' and linked it to our of 'Art of Brilliance' work. The children shared lots of thoughtful ideas about they can always try their best.

English

We have been reading the folk tale 'The Tin Forest' in English. We began by looking at the front cover of the book and sharing our thoughts and predictions about what we thought the story was about and what might happen.

The children have enjoyed listening to and reading the story. They have thought carefully about the character of the Old Man and his feelings. They have also used prepositions to describe the wild, tropical forest that the character dreams of.

The children have also planning their own innovations of the story, including new characters. They have worked very hard and created some beautiful storyboards. Well done, Year 3.

We have also found out about Biographies this half term in English. The children have explored the different features of this type of text and have read lots of different biographies. The children then wrote their own biography on a famous children's author and David Attenborough.

Maths

In Maths, we have been busy learning about Place Value this half term. The children have been representing numbers in different ways and have been using equipment to partition numbers up to 1,000.

We have also used number lines to identify and order numbers and have learnt about increments.

Science

This half term we are learning all about 'Animals Including Humans'. We began our topic by discussing what we already know. The children then worked with a partner to complete a challenge - they were given pictures of human bones and had to put them together to create a human skeleton!

RE

We have been discussing Harvest. The children have thought carefully about how we celebrate Harvest in schools and why Christians celebrate this festival.

Topic

In Geography this half term, we have been learning all about mountains. The children have revisited some learning about the United Kingdom and have used maps and atlases to identify and label capital cities. They have also explored map symbols and used compasses to learn about compass directions.

History

This half term we have started our Stone Age topic. We have looked at prehistory and identified the three different periods within the Stone Age. The children have also explored artefacts from the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age as well as finding out about Stone Age houses and how these changed over time.

PE

This half term we have been busy practising our fundamental movement skills, including running, hopping, skipping, jumping, throwing, catching and rolling a ball. We have been using these skills to play different games.

Computing

This half term we are learning all about coding and word processing this term.

The children have worked with Mr Lenge to find out about typing. They have learnt how to change font, the size of font and how to use other features of Microsoft Word. At the end of the unit, the children used other skills including clicking and dragging to create a Christmas picture.

Art

The children have explored the work of Pablo Picasso in Art this half term. They have created their own self-portraits in his style of his work.
