Autumn Term

Harvest

In Year 3 we have been discussing Harvest. The children have thought carefully about how we celebrate Harvest in schools and why Christians celebrate this festival. With Mrs Sherry the children have explored how people around the world celebrate Harvest. We have also looked at the Jewish festival called Sukkot. The children loved looking at photographs from their time in Year 1 when we built Sukkahs in the classroom!

The children thoroughly enjoyed participating in our Harvest Service on Friday. Kelsie-May, Lily, Michael, Tyler, Hollie and Finley shared a story about Fikerte who lives in Ethiopia.

Called by God

We have recently started our 'Called by God' unit in RE with the children discussing when they have been asked to do things and by who. The children will consider what it means to be called by God and the responses that people have made to that call. We will look at Prophets and stories from the Bible.

Remembrance Day

On Monday November 11th the whole school participated in a remembrance service. Every class created a poppy made from the children's handprints and on each of them was a special prayer of hope. These included hopes for our school, hopes for the world and hopes the local community. We went on a walk around the prayer walk and everybody shared their own thoughts with God.

Christmas

During our Christmas unit we have discussed what it means to be present and how we know that God is with us all the time even though we cannot see him.

We have created a piece of artwork for the whole school Bible story display to show the incarnation of God as a man at Christmas and have discussed how we celebrate that he came to earth as a baby and was present in human form.  We have looked at paintings of the shepherds visiting the stable including the 'Adoration of the Shepherds' by Gerard van Honthorst.

The children have discussed what 'Emmaunel' means and we all recognised this word from songs we sing in worship. We have also watched a film about the Parable of the Sheep and the Goats and the children shared thoughtful ideas about how when we help others we are also helping Jesus.

We also explored the impact Jesus has and read the traditional tale 'Papa Panov'.

The children also enjoyed participating in the Christmas Carol Service at St Saviour's and completed a reading about 'The Birth'. Well done to Lily, Faith, Kelsie-May, Tyler and Jamie for some super reading of some difficult words!

Jesus, the man who changed lives

This half term we will be discussing what 'change' means, what happens when Jesus changes lives and exploring different stories to find out how Jesus does this.
