Maths
Autumn Term
Place Value
We have been learning about place value in Year 3. The children have been representing numbers in different ways and have been on a place value hunt around school to answer questions.
The children have also been using number lines to identify and order numbers up to 1000 and have learnt all about increments. They have used their knowledge from Year 2 about greater than and less than symbols to compare and order numbers. We have also been identifying 10 more, 10 less, 100 more and 100 less of numbers up to 1000. The children have also been counting up in 50s and have been working hard to solve problems using their reasoning skills.
Addition and Subtraction
We have started looking at addition and subtraction in Year 3. The children have been learning different strategies to solve calculations. We have also used manipulatives to help us add and subtract three-digit numbers.
Multiplication and Division
We have been focusing on our three, four and eight times table over the last few weeks in Year 3. The children have learnt lots of different strategies to help them multiply and divide.
Spring Term
Multiplication and Division
We will be continuing our learning on this unit as we start the new year. The children have used multiplication and division facts to compare statements and have used arrays to help them solve problems.
We have also learnt how to use a grid method to multiply 2-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers.
Money
In Maths we have been learning how to convert pounds and pence and have been looking at adding two amounts of money together. Next we will look at subtracting money and giving change.
Statistics
Recently in Maths we have been learning about tally charts, pictograms, bar charts and tables. The children have collected data on Year 3's favourite ice creams, authors and animals. They have then presented this information in different ways.
